If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with matcha. Not only is it delicious, but it’s also packed with health benefits, making it the ultimate feel-good AM drink or the perfect mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Matcha is rich in antioxidants, boosts energy, and even supports focus and a sense of calm. I used to spend $7 on watered-down café matchas, but I started making this recipe at home and have never looked back. Over the past few months, I’ve perfected my matcha latte recipe, and I’m so excited to share it with you today.
This recipe is simple, customizable, and seriously satisfying. Here’s how I make the creamiest, dreamiest matcha latte:
Step 1: Start with High-Quality Matcha
The key to an amazing matcha latte is using ceremonial-grade matcha. Unlike culinary-grade matcha, which is better for baking or cooking, ceremonial-grade matcha is smoother and much less bitter. My favorite powder is The Matcha Tokyo, Tokyo Rich—it has a vibrant green color, a naturally sweet flavor, and a velvety texture that’s unmatched.
Step 2: Sift Your Matcha
To avoid clumps, sift about 3 teaspoons of matcha powder into a bowl or cup. Trust me, this little step makes all the difference!
Step 3: Add Water and Froth
Pour about 1/4 cup of boiling water (just off the boil to preserve matcha’s delicate flavor) over the sifted powder. Then, froth the mixture for about 1.5 minutes. You can use a traditional bamboo whisk, but I prefer an electric frother for a creamier result.
Step 4: Pour Over Ice
Fill your glass with ice and pour the frothy matcha mixture over it. Watching the bright green matcha flow over the ice is so satisfying!
Step 5: Froth Your Milk
Next, froth about 1/3 cup of your favorite milk for another 1.5 minutes. My go-to milks are Three Trees Vanilla Bean Almond Milk (it froths like a dream!) or Malk Oat Milk. Both add a rich, creamy texture that perfectly complements the matcha.
Step 6: Add Sweetener (Optional)
If you prefer a sweeter matcha, stir in a little maple syrup. For a treat, I sometimes mix in Califia Farms Cookie Butter Almond Creamer—it’s indulgent but insanely delicious.
And there you have it! A creamy, dreamy matcha latte that’s way better than any café version. Let me know if you try it—I’d love to hear your thoughts or any variations you come up with!
